Age and growth of the striped seabream, Lithognathus mormyrus (Actinopterygii: Perciformes: Sparidae), in the central coast of Algeria, Mediterranean Sea ArchiMer
Boufersaoui, Samira; Kassar, Abderrahmane; Mokrane, Zakia; Elleboode, Romain; Mahe, Kelig.
Background. Striped seabream, Lithognathus mormyrus (Linnaeus, 1758), is a bony fish, which has a high economic value on the Algerian coast. Because of the increasing fishing pressure, however, a close monitoring is recommended. The information about the biology of this species, occurring in the south-western Mediterranean Sea and especially in the north African coast, is very limited. The presently reported study provides new estimated data on age and growth parameters of striped seabream in Algeria. Materials and methods. A total of 449 specimens of L. mormyrus were sampled for 2 years (January 2013 to December 2014) from the commercial fishery in the central part of the Algerian coast. The samples were collected monthly. The fish ranged in size from...

Age, growth and mortality of the striped seabream Lithognathus mormyrus (Linnaeus, 1758) in the Gulf of Tunis (Central Mediterranean Sea) ArchiMer
Khaldi, Asma; Chater, Ines; Elleboode, Romain; Mahé, Kelig; Chakroun-marzouk, Nadia.
Despite the high commercial value of the striped seabream Lithognathus mormyrus (Linnaeus, 1758) in the Gulf of Tunis, biological data on its age, growth and exploitation rate are lacking. With the aim of estimating growth parameters, 516 individuals, ranging from 6–27.5 cm total length and from 3.5–293.5 g total weight, were collected from the artisanal fishing fleet between February 2014 and July 2016. The somatic growth presented a positive allometry and was described by the equation TW = 6.54 10−3TL3.213. The monthly analysis of the marginal increment of the otoliths revealed that only one annulus was deposited per year. The estimated von Bertalanffy growth parameters were: L∞ = 30.18 cm, k = 0.303 year−1 and t0 = −1.42 years. Total and natural...

Inventaire des proies ingérées par le marbré Lithognathus mormyrus (Linnaeus, 1758) (pisces : perciformes : sparidae) dans la baie d'Alger et d' Annaba ArchiMer
Harchouche, K; Maurin, C; Quero, Jean-claude.
At the time of a survey of the biology of Lithognathus mormyrus and its feeding ecology and dynamies, in the region of Algiers and Annaba, preys ingested by this species were determined from stomach contents. Food was composed entirely of benthic organisms. It has been counted more than 45 species-preys distributed in 9 taxonomic classes. The quantitative analysis of these preys and the variation of the food regime according to a certain number of parameters were treated. The young individuals fed on small Tellinids bivalves and adults, on Crustaceans Amphipods, Cumaceans, Decapodes, Molluscs, sea urchins and Polychaetes. The feeding of this fish was rich and varied in preys species and little among them were preferential. The three main sources of food...

Kentouri, M; Divanach, P.
In aquaculture and particularly during fish larval rearing when the time between moment of stress application and the non-return point acquisition is very limited, criteria which may provide health state and stock evolution are of great importance. Now, in stress responce chronology, the specific behavioral scheme modification is first noted. This early identification, associated with initial conditions restoration, generaly do not involve after effects. Ethological knowledge beeing the basis of this for-casting strategy, the authors define in this study a simplified behavioral scheme of four sparid larval species in a range of physiological conditions.
